A girl named Kameeka loves hula-hoopin. Today, she plans to beat her rival Jamara and earn the crown of being the Hula-Hoopin queen of 139th Street. But she forgets that she must help her mom prepare for Miz Adeline's birthday party. When the cake does not go as planned, Kameeka's mom sends her out to get more supplies to redo the cake she brings her hula-hoop with her to win the crown. Kameeka loses track of time, and the store closes. She has to leave the competition and face the reality of telling her mom she dropped the ball about the supplies. Kameeka can get creative and make a special birthday donut for Miz Adeline. She also explains why there is no cake. Miz Adeline asks Kameeka for a hula-hoop, and Kameka and Jamara finally see who is the true hula-hoopin queen of 139th Street.
